trivia: i was talking to

while scanning the sketch of this page. i scanned it, pieced it together, resized it...and then closed photoshop without saving it. i'm goddamn amazing, as kep observed.

you can tell this was a rescan because i already had started inking the stairwell panel (which is easily my favourite, for inks)

anywayyyy. as you can see, not many changes at all in script from the final version. i got rid of the redundant "it smells weird" "they cook weird things" and changed em's semi-ambigious "okay there" to "you okay" mostly because "okay there" could be misconstrued as 1) him being an ass, which he isn't intentionally and 2) implying grey was now supposed to sleep on the couch. HAD TO GET RID OF THAT. does linguistic OCD exist?

you can see the baseball bat which was originally leaning by the door has been replaced in the final version by a road cone. the reason for this is because a baseball bat has a kind of violent/competitive connotation attached to it. em's neither of these, and wouldn't own something like that let alone leave one lying by his door. a road cone, on the other hand...who HASN'T stolen road cones? another object i considered was a pile of cinderblocks, but next to the stereo they made that wall too blocky.

also you can see that em was basicly completely erased/resketched/redrawn in the main panel. this is because even though there's a slight step up to get into his apartment, his legs looked too short in the original sketch.

god what else. well that folding chair moved over some, and grey isn't flipping em off in the final version.

while i had planned on an architecture in helsinki poster (none of which look like that, i was just playin' around) the other poster (a scanner darkly in the final version) wasn't decided on until the inking stage was nearly done. HEY ICARUS, WHY'S THAT? ...because i just knew em had some posters up, and one was a band poster and one was a movie poster. i wasn't really planning on what movie.

but then i started watching a scanner darkly again while i was inking and well
these things do happen.

also if you squint, you can see in the bottom middle panel that em's eyes went through about 15 different designs as i tried to decide his mood for responding to grey. i eventually went for a completely nuetral

expression rather than something :\-y, because i don't think em is really capable of being that jaded.

yet.

good times.
